Inaugural Lushootseed Language Conference

Non-profit organization Lushootseed Research, founded in 1983 by Vi "Taqwsheblu" Hilbert, will be holding its first language conference on Saturday, May 1, at Seattle University.

The public is invited to attend the Northwest Indian College co-sponsored inaugural Lushootseed Language Conference. The conference, titled "Sharing Language & Cultural Resources," will take place from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. 

The conference is targeted towards: Lushootseed language teachers and students (beginners to advanced levels); elders and cultural teachers who would like to share their experiences and knowledge; and museum and cultural resources professionals throughout the Puget Sound area.

This one-day conference will feature:

  •  Networking on sharing our language and research resources
  •  Language Immersion Program
  •  Ethnobotanical Garden, plant identification
  •  Special tribute to Vi Hilbert and Thom Hess
  •  Resource tables available for tribal language programs, museums and non-profit organizations on a first-come, first-served basis

Registration is $40 in advance or $50 at the door. Students and elders are $20. Lunch is provided. CEUs and clock hours are available.
