4th Annual Vine Deloria, Jr. Indigenous Studies Symposium July 9 - 11, 2009 at NWIC
Northwest Indian College is proud to announce the 4th Annual Vine Deloria, Jr. Indigenous Studies Symposium hosted at the Lummi Campus near Bellingham, Washington. The purpose of this symposium is to bring together Native and non-native scholars and tribal elders who are interested in honoring the life and work of our friend, colleague, and mentor, the late Vine Deloria, Jr. The symposium this year will be open to all topics: religion, spirituality and philosophy, history, law and policy, and critiques of science and education. Registration fee is $100 (includes lunches and salmon dinner).
For more information visit the symposium website (http://blogs.nwic.edu/deloria/) or contact Steve Pavlik at spavlik@nwic.edu or call 1-866-676-2772 ext. 4307.
The symposium itself will be organized as a series of intellectually driven panels – no “workshop” type presentations – and specially invited speakers addressing these issues. Individual presentations may be formal or informal, but in keeping with the spirit of Vine, there will be no PowerPoint or other electronic presentations. This summer’s symposium will also feature a sneak preview of Darren Kipp’s upcoming video documentary on the life of Vine! Registration fee - $100 (includes lunches and salmon dinner).
