7th Annual Vine Deloria, Jr. Symposium
Event Date:
July 12, 2012 - 8:00am - July 14, 2012 - 5:00pm
The 7th Annual Vine Deloria, Jr. Indigenous Studies Symposium will be held July 12 through July 14 at Northwest Indian College's main campus, near Bellingham, Washington.
The purpose of the symposium is to bring together Native and non-native scholars and tribal elders interested in honoring the life and work of Vine Deloria, Jr., and in presenting new ideas and expanding knowledge in several key areas that Deloria devoted his life to.
There will be no particular focus to this summer's event. The symposium itself will be organized as a series of intellectually-driven panels.
Hank Adams will give the keynote address. Other speakers include Billy Frank, Jr., Bob Keller, Carol Edmo, Helen Sanders, Shelly McDonald, Rep. John McCoy, Steve Pavlik, Jordan Lewis, Michael Marker, Daniel R. Wildcat, Rita Asgeirsson, Tom Hoffman, Dennis Martinez, Merv Tano, Se-ah-dom Edmo, Charlotte Cote, Nick Peroff and Geneva Bicenti.
Individual presentations may be formal or informal, but in keeping with the spirit of Deloria, there will be no PowerPoint or other electronic presentations.
Registration costs $100, which will cover continental breakfasts and lunches each day of the event and a celebratory salmon dinner.
