Community College Survey of Student Engagement (CCSSE) at NWIC
NWIC conducted the Community College Survey of Student Engagement (CCSSE) and the Faculty Survey of Student Engagement (FSSE) in the winter quarter of 2005. One hundred and twenty four NWIC students from various sites completed the survey. The CCSSE provides information about effective educational practice within community colleges and assists institutions by using that information to promote improvements in student learning and persistence. The FSSE provides similar information from the faculty’s perspective (see the links below to the FSSE results).
A First Look at the Results highlights those items where NWIC falls notably above or below the mean of other small community colleges that participated in the 2005 CCSSE.
Benchmarks are groups of conceptually related items that address key areas of student engagement, learning, and persistence. CCSSE’s five benchmarks denote areas that educational research has shown to be important in quality educational practice. The five benchmarks of effective educational practice in community colleges are active and collaborative learning, student effort, academic challenge,student faculty interaction, and support for learners. The Summary of 5 Benchmarks can be used to compare college performance across benchmarks, to similarly sized institutions, and to the full CCSSE population of community colleges.
