Northwest Indian College (NWIC) is hosting, for the first time, the annual American Indian Higher Education Consortium National Basketball Tournament on the Lummi Indian reservation in Bellingham, WA on March 2 – 6, 2016.  The tournament will consist of approximately 10 men’s and women’s basketball teams from Montana, North Dakota, Minnesota, Arizona, New Mexico and elsewhere.   Games will be held at three gym locations:  Lummi Nation School, Lummi Youth Wellness Center and McKenzie Gym—all located on the Lummi reservation within 6 miles of campus.

“The AIHEC National Basketball Tournament is like our version of NCAA March Madness. The tournament, however, represents more than just basketball or sports in general.  It provides an opportunity to bring the community together and for student-athletes to build lasting memories and friendships while representing their institutions and Tribal Nations in a positive way.”  –  NWIC President Justin Guillory

The tournament will also feature Inez Jasper, the award-winning Canadian First Nations singer, performer and motivational speaker.  Inez, who was recently featured on the MTV series called Native America: 7th Generation Rises, will be performing songs on Friday, March 4, 2016 at 7:00pm at the Lummi Nation School.

Cost of Admission: Daily rate-$5.00 for adults; $3.00 for elders (55 years or older) and children (12 years and below.  Tournament pass (four days): $20 for adults, $10.00 for elders/children.  NWIC students with current Student ID are free.  Admissions will be honored at all gyms.
