The Lummi Library has a unique collection of Native American books and videos, periodicals, and microfiche. About 1/3 of the collection may be used only at the library because they are in the Special Collections room.
The library is continually adding new material to the collection in all types of media, including electronic resources. NetLibrary full-text books are available beginning fall 2007. These e-books are accessible from the main campus via IP gateways and from the outlying sites via password.
There are books, periodicals and videos on all the subject areas taught at NWIC.
The library also has items of interest for the general public including gardening, cooking, health related materials etc.
The library belongs to OCLC and is able to do Interlibrary Loans (
FREE SERVICES - ACCESS TO:
Typewriters: One typewriter is available for patron use.
Television/Video: Individuals may view videos in the basement permission of the librarian. Classes may use the television/video in the downstairs classroom, but must reserve the equipment in advance at the circulation desk.
Interlibrary Loans - unless the lending library charges a fee.

Faxes: May be received here without a charge. If you are a student sending school related faxes - they are free. All others cost $2.00
FEE SERVICES:
Photocopying: Five cents a page. The machine accepts amounts up to a dollar and will give change. Three sizes of paper are available 8.5" x 11"; 8.5" x 14"; and 11" x 17". The library machine does not do double sided copies.
Laminating: The library staff will laminate items for $1.50 per foot. The laminator takes time to heat up, so call ahead.
Card Laminating: $.50 - this is a plastic type lamination.
Coil Binding: We have a machine that will punch and bind up to a 1.5 inch thick book. The cost is $1.00 for 11" coils and $.50 for 8.5" coils. Plastic covers are $.50 each.
Faxes: Students may send school related faxes for free. Personal faxes for all patrons cost $2.00.

Books and periodicals are checked out for two weeks. Videos check out for 3 days and DVD's check out for one day. All items may be renewed (even by phone) unless someone has put a hold on the item.
DENIAL OF BORROWING PRIVILEGES:
No one may check materials out if they have overdue items on their record.
If
students have over $100.00 worth of overdue items, holds will be placed on
their official records. Holds will be removed when the items are returned.
Lost or damaged items must be paid for before the borrower may check
books out again.
There are seven computers in the library for use by students and the general public. You do not need to have a library card to use the computers. These may be used to do research on the Internet and check e-mail. Other computers are in the library are designated for homework. When the library is busy, computer use will be limited to 30 minutes. PLEASE DO NOT USE THESE COMPUTERS FOR GAMES, MUSIC VIDEOS OR CHATLINES.
Young children should be accompanied by an adult when using the computers. Children may use the computers as long as a college student is not waiting for the computers.
