Course 1                 To be the Eagles’  View – Fall of First Year

Themes:          “In the beginning…” (Creation stories), Evolutionary theory

                                    Stewardship    “All things are connected”

                                    Skill development

 

Course 2                 Water        - Winter of First Year

Themes:          Cultural/economic importance of water: its connection to treaties, law, regulation, and jurisdiction. Water connecting ocean, freshwater, and land

                                    Regional water conflicts

 

Course 3                 Land          - Spring of First Year

Themes:          Pacific Northwest Reservation Forests and Forestry, Agricultural impacts on reservations: income and effects

 

Internship  - to be completed during the 1st  summer

 

Course 4                 Ocean – Fall of Second Year

Themes:          Fishing: ancestors to present time

                                    Food webs, limiting factors and population dynamics

 

Course 5                 Making Connections, Finding Balance – Winter Second Yr

Themes:          Reservation Case studies: finding the balance.

Preparation of a project proposal (technical/argumentative and grant writing skills)

 

Course 6                 Bring it Together - Capstone Project – Spring of Second Year

Themes:          Field/Lab/Library research of economic and environmental impact, Presentation of project
