NWIC Canoe Family Paddles to Elwha

This summer, Northwest Indian College’s Canoe Family participated in the annual Tribal Canoe Journey, hosted this year by the The Lower Elwha Klallam Tribe in Port Angeles, Washington.
The Canoe Family — made up of current students, recent graduates, NWIC faculty and staff as well as community members — made their way from the Lummi Stommish Grounds to Port Angeles with stops along the way. The team practiced throughout the school year and arrived in Elwha on a new canoe provided by the Native Environmental Science Department.
The team was interviewed by the Seattle Times and photos of the family were published by Indian Country Today.
