NWIC Delegation Goes to AIHEC 2019 Legislative Summit in Washington, D.C.
In February, Northwest Indian College was among 37 Tribal colleges in the US to attend the American Indian Higher Education Consortium (AIHEC) 2019 Annual Legislative Summit. The NWIC delegation included the college president, two NWIC staff, four students, and an NWIC board of trustees representative.
During plenary session, the delegations got to listen to the first Native American women elected to congress, Sharice Davids and Deb Haaland talk about their journey to congress, and insights from the hill. During the week, the NWIC delegation met with twelve representatives from Washington and Idaho where the students told their stories about what NWIC meant to them. The main goal was to seek support in re-authorizing and funding ED-Strengthening Institutions Program, Title III-Part F.
This trip was student-led, and gave our students a hands-on opportunity to advocate for themselves and their peers in order to make real change. Thank you @AIHEC for organizing us and the 36 other delegations in order to support Tribal colleges across the US!
