NWIC Advocates for TCUs in DC
Northwest Indian College’s Delegation completed two days on Capitol Hill at the American Indian Higher Education Consortium Legislative Summit in Washington D.C. meeting with members of Congress to advocate for NWIC and TCUs during Tribal College Week. The delegation was led by Interim President Dr. Lexie Tom, Board Member Lisa Wilson, students Sharon Coss, Christina Hoekstra and Memory Decker-Abe, PIO & Special Projects Manager Natasha Brennan and Student Activites, Leadership & Indigenous Service Learning Coordinator Fiafia Lamositele.
The team met with Sen. Murray (WA), Sen. Risch (ID), Rep. Larsen (WA), Rep. Schrier (WA), Rep. DelBene (WA) and Rep. Randall (WA) as well as staff members from the offices of Sen. Cantwell (WA), Sen. Crapo (ID), Rep. Strickland (WA), Rep. Simpson (ID) and Rep. Fulcher (ID).
The delegation joined 35 of our 37 Tribal Colleges and Universities represented this year’s Legislative Summit. Students had an opportunity to meet with other TCU students, go site-seeing in D.C. and visit the Senate and House galleries, watching a few votes and speeches.
