Critical Inquiry Team Wins Second Year at AIHEC

The pair took a critical look at the history and federal policy of boarding schools, discussed its effects on language and culture, and connected the impacts to their families. Schram was a part of the Critical Inquiry team that took first place last year as well.
NWIC sent a total of eight students with additional support staff. The team competed in activities like archery, traditional plants and foods, knowledge bowl, chess, speeches and handgames.

- Lee Lopez (Navajo) competed in Archery, Handgames and Knowledge Bowl
- Selina Ramirez (Chichimeca Mexica, Dine) competed in Archery, Handgames, Informational Speech and Traditional Plants
- Andrew Schram (White Earth Cherokee) placed first in Critical Inquiry and competed in Handgames
- Deanna Sonnia (Yakama) was the Handgames Captain and competed in Knowledge Bowl and Traditional Plants
- Kendra Wakolee (Sac and Fox Nation) competed in Archery, Handgames and Knowledge Bowl
- Marcus Willard (Tlingit & Aleut) placed first in Critical Inquiry and competed in Handgames
While in South Dakota, the team visited Oglala Lakota College, the Crazy Horse Memorial and Mt. Rushmore in the sacred Black Hills, and Native-owned thrift stores and shops in downtown Rapid City.
