Honoring the life of Larry Campbell
Northwest Indian College honors the life of Swinomish Tribal Member and Northwest Indian College Board of Trustees Vice Chair Larry Campbell Sr. (Wanaseah). Our beloved Board Member was put to rest Monday, Feb. 6, 2023.
“This is such sad news for us all who had the honor of knowing our dear friend Larry. Larry was not only our NWIC Board Member, but he was my friend. He shared with me his life education story and how at 40-some years old, he entered back into college to finish his degree program, and that if he could do it anyone can. He carried much wisdom with him. He was kind, generous, fun to laugh with and always had a positive outlook to share with our students,” said NWIC Board of Trustees President Kristin Kinley.
Larry Campbell served on the NWIC Board of Trustees for over 10 years and provided significant guidance and leadership for the College during this tenure. He also contributed to various NWIC initiatives and activities by sharing cultural knowledge, guidance for community action, board activities and research projects.
“For those who were fortunate to know and work with him, Larry was compassionate, considerate of others, committed to learning and education, generous and willing to share his knowledge with others, and humble. And he was always quick to laugh and tease others in a playful way with his one-of-a-kind smile,” President Justin Guillory said. “NWIC is a special place, and we are better people, because of leaders like Larry. He will be greatly missed.”
Our thoughts, prayers and deepest condolences are with Larry’s family and the Swinomish community.
