CARE Student attends TCU Health Sciences Summer Institute
Community Advocates and Responsive Education in Human Services (CARE) student Deanna Sonnie, who was one of 21 participants accepted to attend the NARCH-BIRCH TCU Health Sciences Summer Institute, where she learned a lot about qualitative data, loved learning about epidemiology, and grant policy.
The Native American Research Centers for Health (NARCH) – Building Indigenous Research Capacity in Health (BIRCH) Health Sciences Summer Institute is a program hosted jointly by the American Indian Higher Education Consortium (AIHEC) and the University of North Dakota (UND). It aims to build the research capacities of Tribal Colleges and Universities by supporting the professional development of TCU students in the health sciences. Participants of the Institute develop research skills, attend seminars on topics like research methodology and Indigenous data sovereignty, network with Indigenous faculty and students, and receive mentorship on career development in the health sciences.
