NWIC’s Student of the Year 2022

Northwest Indian College is honored to announce Ms. Candice Ellis-Thomas as the 2022 Student of the Year!
The American Indian College Fund (College Fund) and the Adolph Coors Foundation sponsors scholarships for first-generation Native students who attend a tribal college or university. Each awardee is nominated by their TCU and will receive a $1200.00 scholarship during the Spring 2022 academic term. The focus of this year’s nominees recognized their scholastic achievement and community service.
Candice is studying for the Behavioral Health Degree and working toward her goal of becoming a licensed child psychologist in a mental health setting for her tribe. Candice chose Northwest Indian College because she wanted to attend school while living within her community. She is enrolled at the Nisqually site and has lived in the area her whole life. She hopes to take the knowledge and education she has gained here at NWIC to benefit the children in her community that are most vulnerable.
Candice enjoys being out in nature and seeing the beauty of Mother Earth, hiking with her German Shepard Odin and her husband Michael. She loves to photograph nature. And on the rainy Pacific Northwest days, you can find Candice deep in a novel or creating art with her tattoo gun.
